6. No

4. Yes
5. No, the writer explains their reasoning on why Apple shouldn't unlock the phones throughly and sticks by it
6. There was indirect quotation of a federal judge.
7. Third Person

A. The major differences include the fact that in a hard news story, opinions aren't allowed, but in opinion pieces, the writer must have an opinion and they have to stand by it and back it up. Opinion pieces also contain less quotations, whereas hard news stories are required to have quotations as proof of what occurred. Another difference is that I noticed is that opinion pieces didn't really follow the inverted pyramid format, and their second paragraphs were more hooks for the story rather than providing additional information.
B. I think that there were a lack of pictures because pictures represent a captured moment in time. An opinion's writer can sway the way the reader sees an event or picture by the way they explain things, and this can discredit photographs.
C. 1. Should PE Credit be required?
2. Should AISD take away late start or extend the school day?
3. Should Bethany Church revoke Bowie student parking?

Final Exam Planning

1) I plan to shoot this assignment nextweekend.
2) I will be shooting in my house and possibly in my backyard.
3) I be documenting a day in the life of my dogs and just focusing on all of the annoying silly stuff they do all day
4) I will only need a camera
5) Because I like to focus on the funnier parts of life, I plan on narrating the entire video as if it was a wildlife documentary like when the narrators say "the _____ stalks its prey". I will probably use more than one clip of video. I will probably show my smaller dog, Lola, when we are about to give her food because she does a little dance & both of my dogs chasing each other and playing. The photos will probably just be of my dogs when they are being annoying like when they beg for food at the dinner table or when Lola won't stop biting people's feet

The perspective of the photos were really good. The photos he shot were very creative and he had great action shots.

2. What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses?
I liked his use of creative blurs, but some action shots didn't really need the creative blur on it.

Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner.

1. Describe one photo that you agree with the judges on. Explain why you and the judges do or do not like it.
I agree with them on the car one in the action category because I think that the lighting and the blur is creative. They think the image is aesthetically pleasing and I do too.

2. Describe one photo that you do NOT agree with the judges on. Explain why you think the judges are wrong.
The tennis one that they thought was beautiful, but the photographer didn't shoot the face in the photo. In my opinion, the photo would've been better with the face was in the photo.

Two Story Rewrites

#1

Janice Jones, a 53 years old that lives in Barstow, California, was shot in the right leg on Wednesday night according to California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye.

"Jones was eating pork chops in the back of her motor home, which was parked on Beach Boulevard near Highway 1, when her dog knocked her 9 mm handgun off a seat. The weapon discharged when it hit the floor, and the bullet passed through Jones' leg and through the side of the vehicle. The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank," according to Rye.

Jones was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital via ambulance and later was transported to Irvine Medical Center, Rye said. Jim Washington, a spokesperson for Huntington Beach Hospital, confirmed Jones was treated at the hospital but gave no additional information.

Jones’ dog, a Pomeranian named Tombo, was placed in the care of the Huntington Beach Animal Control officers. The dog seemed to be malnourished, according to Janet Ngo, one of the animal control officers, and had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead.

“It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops,” Ngo said.

Ngo indicated that her office would explore filing animal abuse charges against Jones.

"Officers cited Jones for expired plates and the county’s district attorney’s office was considering whether to charge her in relation to the gun accident. Jones doesn’t have a permit for the gun," Rye said.

An earthquake rocked the San Francisco Bay area Monday morning. The quake struck at 8:12 a.m. PDT

A building housing McHenry’s Auto Supply at 2342 Plum St. partially collapsed, killing two people and injuring six others, according to  Jennifer Vu, a public information officer from the Hayward Fire Department.

"Names of the dead are being withheld pending notifications of families," Vu said.

Hayward resident Mike Beamer, whose apartment is across the street from McHenry’s, said he felt a rolling motion that lasted for about 30 seconds, with a big jolt coming in the middle.

“I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That’s when the screaming start across the street.”

Hayward firefighters used ropes to stabilize the auto supply shop, conducting a search of the building and capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the site.

"The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, was under the Hayward Hills. People as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Redding felt the quake," according to Penny Gertz, a scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.

"Twenty-one fire personnel, twelve police and five American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse, with some arriving within four minutes of the quake," Vu said.

Three of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General Hospital, according to Vu. She added the no other serious injuries have been reported in Hayward.

Front Pages of the World

What is your favorite newspaper front page? Why?
My favorite newspaper fort page was from Reykjavik, Iceland, titled Fréttabladid, because I thought the layout was interesting, especially the man that was in the middle of the spread with the text going around him.

What is your favorite headline from that newspaper? Why are you interested in it?
How many stories are on the front page of your favorite?
There are 3 stories on the cover of this newspaper. My favorite headline is "Naerri hundrað beiðnir berasá ári vegna átröskunar", which talks about eating disorders, and that surprised me when I translated it because I don't see people publicly talking about these personal struggles that many people go through. It is my favorite because in America, the media doesn't give attention to these real, personal, everyday issues.

What do you notice that all newspaper front pages have in common? Look at design, size of photos, size of story text, etc.
All of the front pages have at least one big photo with the main story next to it and at least two smaller photos to bring attention to a couple of other stories. The main story and photo are usually at the top.
What are things that vary (or are different) on the front pages of different newspapers? Look at design, size of photos, size of headlines, etc.
The front page in Tokyo didn't have any large photos on it, and a lot of the covers din't have ads on the while others did. Most of them looked very similar with their font size and arrangement.

Prompt Shoot Peer Review

1) Leslie's Pose photo was my favorite. There were leading lines toward the subject which drew my eyes in and the background was simple which made it easier to look at. The black and white looked very nice as well.

2) My least favorite photo was the Pause photo. I don't really like the angle and perspective it was taken from and the coloring is a little strange in the photo.

3) All of the photos were very creative and demonstrated the rules of photography.

4) The coloring of the photos was kind of off putting, because they are all so bright and very blue. I would suggest maybe sticking to the original coloring after basic levels and curves.

5) She definitely accurately portrayed pose, because it is a photo of someone posing.

6) The End doesn't make much sense to me, because it is just a photo of tree branches.

Favorite Photos of 2015

This photo of a volcano erupting in Chile is very interesting and eye-catching because of the colors and the point of view that the photo was taken from.

I like this photo because Rhianna is so glorious and breathtaking in every moment of her existence and this photo catches her looking flawless once again.

The perspective that this photo was taken at i breathtaking as it seems that the photographer is standing on the edge of the world.

Best song of 2015?

Although I'm not a big Justin Bieber fan, I have to admit that I have jammed to this song on many occasions. It's a very pop and modern song, capturing the attention of listeners with "heartfelt" lyrics set to an upbeat tune. The main reason I chose this song is because out of all of the songs that are played on the radio nowadays, this song annoys me the least. Uptown Funk and Shut up and Dance are played on a constant loop and make me want to cut off my ears :)

Best Movie of 2015

I only saw one movie this year, and that was Spy. The movie was pretty funny overall and I enjoyed seeing it. I saw it at the beginning of summer so I don't remember much.
